Once again sign-ups have begun for staffing the Marine Corps Marathon.
Semper Fi Each October for over 30 years hams have supported the US Navy Medical
Commanders as their eyes and ears on the course and their primary
communications mode with medical aid stations. This relationship has become so strong that when we conduct our pre-operations briefing the
US Navy senior medical commander (Captain or Lt. Commander)and his/her senior
aide make time on a Saturday to brief our people and they often
come to us for technical help on communications issues. The ham side of the
event is led by the Virginia District 2 DEC, with support from MDC
and VA section, district, and local emergency officials from ARES and RACES.
With more than 125 hams deployed in the District of Columbia an Arlington each year this is one of the biggest regional efforts in the
nation. For some it is a way to say thank you to the armed forces, for others it is an opportunity to continue to carry on with public service
activities. Whichever it is to you operators are needed and you are invited to help.
